Mimesis and time. Lacoue-Labarthe and the borders of history

Abstract

This thesis aims to demonstrate that historicity is the fundamental reading key that articulates Lacoue-Labarthe's thought. In order to achieve this objective, it first aims to highlight the specificity of Lacoue-Labarthe’s deconstructive gesture, which focuses on the notion of mimesis and makes it a transversal motif for rethinking the whole history of metaphysics. If philosophy ha imposed itself as a real discourse capable of promoting a linguistic identity, i.e., a pure presentation, Lacoue-Labarthe’s reflection on mimesis allows him to disarticulate this claim to identity. He opposes any presumed “original” presentation and instead values the material work of presentation. At analysing different ways of understanding historicity, and in particular, he Heideggerian development, seen from the problematic angle that opens up in Hölderlin and Rousseau, the French thinker underlines the tragic implication of metaphysical reflection and promotes an understanding capable of taking on its ideological relapses.

Cette thèse vise à démontrer que l’historicité est la clé de lecture fondamentale qui articule la pensée de Lacoue-Labarthe. Pour atteindre ce but, elle vise d’abord à mettre en évidence la spécificité du geste déconstructif de Lacoue-labarthe qui focalise la notion de mimesis et en fait un motif transversal pour repenser toute l’histoire de la métaphysique. Si la philosophie s’est imposée comme un véritable discours capable de promouvoir une identité linguistique, c’est-à-dire une pure présentation, la réflexion de Lacoue-Labarthe sur la mimesis lui permet de désarticuler cette prétention à l’identité, en s’opposant à toute présentation présumé « originaire » et de valoriser plutôt le travail matériel de la représentation. En analysant différentes manières de comprendre l’historicité, et notamment le développement heideggérien, vu sous l’angle problématique qui s’ouvre chez Hölderlin et Rousseau, le penseur français souligne l’implication tragique de la réflexion métaphysique et promut une compréhension capable de prendre en charge ses rechutes idéologiques.

Esta tesis pretende demostrar que la historicidad es la clave de lectura fundamental que articula el pensamiento de Lacoue-Labarthe. Para lograr este objetivo, en primer lugar pretende poner de relieve la especificidad del gesto deconstructivo de Lacoue-Labarthe, que se centra en la noción de mímesis y la convierte en un motivo transversal para repensar toda la historia de la metafísica. Si la filosofía se ha impuesto como un verdadero discurso capaz de promover una identidad lingüística, es decir, una pura presentación, la reflexión de Lacoue-Labarthe sobre la mímesis le permite desarticular esta pretensión de identidad, oponiéndose a toda presunta presentación " originaria ", y valorar en cambio el trabajo material de la representación. Al analizar diferentes formas de entender la historicidad, y en particular el desarrollo heideggeriano, visto desde el ángulo problemático que se abre en Hölderlin y Rousseau, el pensador francés subraya la implicación trágica de la reflexión metafísica y promueve una comprensión capaz de asumir sus recaídas ideológicas.
