In this semi-expository work, we present a comprehensive current picture of the issue of computability of topological entropy for multidimensional shifts of finite type. We present an overview of most known results which imply computability, along with presenting some examples with weaker hypotheses for which computability does not hold. In many cases, we present improved or more detailed versions of known results, along with proving some entirely new ones.
