Resumen
In the normal or diabetic condition the liver plays a fundamental homeostatic role, since it is the organ that produces glucose and thus governs the blood sugar level (28). The glucose output from the liver is increased by hypoglycemia and decreased by hyperglycemia. When the liver is absent, diabetic hyperglycemia cannot occur and it is not maintained if it already existed.
