El recurso a los animales en la obra de Cromacio de Aquileya

Abstract

La literatura patrística recurrió muy frecuentemente a la construcción de analogías entre ciertos animales y determinados individuos, grupos religiosos, tipos humanos o entidades. El fenómeno, sin embargo, ha permanecido prácticamente al margen de los intereses de los investigadores al menos por cuanto concierne a la obra de los obispos del norte de la Península Itálica de finales del siglo IV y comienzos del V. El presente trabajo se propone presentar algunas reflexiones sobre la cuestión derivadas del análisis de los Sermones y del Tractatus in Mathaeum de Cromacio de Aquileya (…392-406…). Tras una primera aproximación cuantitativa, nos detendremos en la consideración de los objetivos perseguidos por el uso de tales analogías y en la observación de algunos de sus mecanismos de construcción y de legitimación.

The Patristic Literature very frequently resorted to the construction of analogies between certain animals and particular individuals, religious groups, types of humans and entities. However, this phenomenon has remained almost in the margins of researchers’ interests, at least as regards the work of bishops in the North of the Italian Peninsula at the end of 4th Century and beginning of the 5th Century. This work proposes to present some reflections about this matter which are derived from the analysis of the Sermones and of Tractatus in Mathaeum of Chromatius of Aquileia (…392-406…). After a quantitative approach, the objectives pursued in the use of such analogies and the observations of some of the construction and legitimization mechanisms will be considered.
