Currently choosing a profession in our culture is seen as an important fact in the subject
constitution, mainly to youths in the transition between adolescence and adult life. Thenceforth,
different factors can be involved in the professional choice, as the influence of maturity and
identity. The maturity to the professional choice is linked to a setting of attitudes and knowledge
that the subject needs to gather to, by this mean, consciously and independent accomplish their
entrance in the professional world. The identity formation during this important period of
adolescence is shown as the continuity of the being, and it only can be comprehended by the
identification process and the knowledge about the own drives and defences. Therefore, this
research aimed to evaluate the maturity to the professional choice and the identity construction
of students of the last year of school. The sample consists in 50 students of two schools of
Cuiabá – MT, 30 students of public school (19 female and 11 male), and 20 students from a
private school (16 female and 4 male), with the ages from 16 to 18 years old. The instruments
to the analyzes were: The maturity Scale to Professional Choice (EMEP), The scale to Evaluate
the Development of Identity of Adolescents (AIDA), Test composed by profession’s pictures
BBT-BR and a Questionnarie elaborated by the author of this dissertation. The data were
worked firstly in the Excel Program and then by to R cran software. The Mann Witney (not
parametric) statistics and effect size were made in the EMEP and BBT-BR scales, and to the
AIDA scale the T Test and effect size were used to compare the groups. The findings about the
influence in the professional choice pointed that the Family was the major influence factor to
the choice process. In the EMEP the adolescents had average maturity to the professional
choice. In the AIDA scale the data showed that they have health and integrated identities. With
respect to the BBT-BR test, it can be implicated the work field of both groups were alike.
Therefore, we can draw a conclusion that besides the fact that the adolescents face a crisis and
discovering moment of life, the issues about the professional choice seems to be preserved
because they are able to make a conscious choice by a health formation of identity.
