Resumen
Oral health is an integral and inseparable part of overall health, in addition to
the impacts directly in oral functions, may have great influence on the wealth and quality of
life of individuals. Objective: Analyze the oral health situation of adolescents aged 12 years
old from the Center-West Region/Brazil and identify relate factors, according to the National
Oral Health Survey SB Brazil 2010. Methodology: Cross-sectional population-based study
conducted in adolescents aged 12 years from the database of the SB Brazil 2010 involving all
the capitals in the Center-West/Brazil, the Federal District and a sample of the cities from
within each state of this region. The 1192 participants were interviewed and examined in their
houses and selected through a random sampling. Statistical analyzes were performed using the
chi-squared test and reasons of crude prevalence and adjusted by multiple model Poisson
regression with robust variance. Results: Tooth decay befell about 41% of surveyed
adolescents. After adjustment model for tooth decay showed significantly associated risk with
the state of Mato Grosso, Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul, family income ≤ R $ 500.00,
race/yellow skin color, difficulty to eating, difficulty sleeping and
pain/extraction/treatment/other. Approximately 12% of adolescents had dental fluorosis, and
of these only 0.17% has shown severe fluorosis levels. In the multiple model, dental fluorosis
showed only one significant association of protection with the state of Mato Grosso and
besides that, had an impact in daily activities, presented influence on leisure times and did not
affect the quality of sleep. Approximately 32% of adolescents in this region presented a
compromised periodontal condition, 10.57% with gingival bleeding and 21.22% with dental
calculus. Periodontal disease presented a significant association in the final adjusted model
with the state of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, female gender, difficulty to eat and
shame of smiling. Conclusion: The DMFT index in the Central-West region was 2.14. Dental
fluorosis and periodontal disease has reached about 12% and 32% of adolescents surveyed,
respectively. Both dental caries as periodontal disease are associated with adolescents from
low income, cause impacts on daily activities interfering with quality of life and are the main
reasons for dental appointments.
