Resumen
The relationship of the men with his body is natural to the human being, it has always
been present in its history reflecting the sociocultural aspects. However, the
expression "Cult of the Body" was designed to express that in contemporaneity
people spends much more time, money and effort to perform body care compared to
other historical periods. Therefore, the word "worship" which means adoration and
veneration, is a hyperbole precisely used to emphasize the fact that in contemporary
times the body has gained prominence. The main objective of this research is to
analyze how the cult of the body is inserted in social networking sites. For this, it will
be first elaborated a bibliographical research with the purpose of conceptualizing and
contextualizing the cult of the body by bringing definitions and characteristics from
the way it develops in the contemporaneity. Important historical topics for the current
unfolding of the cult of the body will also be presented. Afterwards, it will be
analyzed contemporaneity, the factors that constitute society and which are also
important for the construction of identity, since the cult of the body arose from these
aspects. Finally, one of the main contemporary features will be approached more
deeply: cyberculture, focusing on social networks. These are important means of
communication that have as one of their main functions the expression and
representation of the individual in digital world and, for that, has become a way in
which the cult of the body has been developed. After analyzing all the relevant
theoretical references, a field survey ware carried out with the application of
questionnaires and, later, the analysis of the content published by the informants on
Facebook in order to verify the content published on social networks and the opinions
and feelings which involve these publications, and then relate them to the worship of
the body.
