This paper refers to a case study to discuss and understand the school routine of a deaf child with cochlear implant among children without hearing problems. The student is five years old and is registered in the elementary school of a municipal institute located in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul state. The student makes use of some oral portuguese words, gestures and some Libras's signals to communicate. It is a descriptive research of qualitative approach of the Case Study type. The idea of including deficient alterity in the general education system becomes a practice advised according to documents such as the Law of Directives and Bases of National Education-LDBEN, and Declaration of Salamanca. In order to invest in this study, the research problem is: How the language is being acquired and how is it possible to communicate among the colleagues of a deaf child with a Cochlear Implant, included in a traditional school in Santa Maria-RS? The main objective is to verify the development of the language and communication in the school routine of a deaf student with cochlear implant included in a municipal school in Santa Maria-RS. To conclude, the analysis of the results of the present research demonstrates that the student is not acquiring a structured structure, capable of allowing his cognitive development and maintaining communication in the school environment.
