Analysis of vertical movements in building structures is an important step to evaluate performance and stability on foundation works. Differences in height are determined using special methods, e.g., the geometric leveling which leads to an accuracy down to millimeter level. This report is about a case study carried out at the “Residential Vila Di Fiori” building, a seven storeys under construction building in Santa Maria. The main goal was to monitor the level variation in some pillars due to vertical displacements of the foundation. A set of control points was established around the building area to support an altimetric network as the reference for height measurements by geometric leveling. Settlement of up to 3 mm were detected, indicating that topographic methods may be a feasible and convenient solution for monitoring structure stability.
