Resumen
This work presents alternative methodologies to fractionation of petroleum asphalt cement (CAP) in sulfur species (saturated/aromatic compounds, thiophenic compounds and sulfide compounds) proposed by Payzant (1989). The alternative methods reduce the consumption of chemical reagents and organic solvents, as well as minimization waste generation and time to perform the procedure. In order to evaluate the results, non-parametric Wilcoxon-T significance test and linear regression analysis were perfomed between the total percentages of sulfur obtained from the alternative methodologies and the reference methodology in the saturated /aromatic, thiophenic and sulfide fractions, which are the classes of compounds separated from the asphalt matrix. It was found that there is not statistical difference between the percentages of total sulfur obtained by the alternative methods when compared to the referential method. Moreover the results show that there is a linear relationship between the methodologies. In this context, it is possible to use the alternative methods proposed in this work for the fractionation of the asphalt matrix to obtain the sulfur compounds classes of interest, as such methods consider reducing the amounts of chemical reagents and organic solvents to provide minimization of costs and environmental impacts caused by waste generation and the use of toxic solvents.
