Resumen
The pregnancy period is a single moment in the woman’s life, being considered a challenging experience and full of changes. The prenatal care still is considered as an area of intense concern in the public health. The following study has the objective of evaluating the quality of prenatal care in the city o Santa Maria, RS, by the view of the health professionals of the Strategies of Health Family (ESFs). It was made a descriptive qualitative research in 13 ESFs of the city between June and July of 2015. The data collection was made by a semi-structured interview and the content analysis proposed by Minayo was used to analyze the data. To better understand the results were listed five themes. Based on the results were observed that all the professionals follow the Ministry of Health normative to conduct the prenatal consultations. On the other hand, some difficulties were mentioned such as, delay in performing obstetric ultrasound by the Public Health Service and the absence of reference to the specialized service for the primary care. Another problem is due the absence of pregnant groups in the health units where they work. Therefore, it is necessary a reflection on the work processes for the development of effective strategies to avoid fragmented practices that cause estrangement between professional-patient. These strategies will ensure a comprehensive care in all levels of attention and an appropriate access to the health services.
