The external skeletal fixation is the stabilization of fractures or articulations by means of cutaneous fixation pins that penetrate into the two bony cortices and are connected with a metal bar or a self-polymerizing acrylic resin, making a hard external structure. The application of the external fixation as an orthopedic method for fractures treatment must be adjusted to the orthopedics fundamental principles, which were established to any bony fixation system. It has a great range of applications and can be applied with little damage to the vascularization and the consolidation process. It can be done through closed reduction of the fracture, minimizing the soft tissues damage, not techniques for the correct placing of the external fixative; demonstrate easiness, practicalness and efficiency; present a review about external skeletal fixation devices, bringing information on the utilized material, some techniques, some common mistakes and the most appropriate places to external fixative fitting.
