dc.description.abstractBridges, viaducts and footbridges, also known as works of art, are important structures for our society, so it is important that designers and technical staff have the knowledge about the technical regulations that cover these structures. The security of these structures as well as those who use them is very important. For this, three technical standards were chosen that must be worked together so that we have good structures and that present road safety for all users. The standards chosen were NBR 15486/2016, on road safety devices, NBR 14885/2016, on concrete barriers, and NBR 7187/2021 on bridges, overpasses and footbridges. With this, it was chosen to analyze these standards in order to facilitate and simplify their understanding and thus help to have safer structures. For this, a general analysis of the standards was made, showing their importance for the topic discussed. Afterwards, parameters that must be followed for the definition of the safety devices were shown, as well as the criteria necessary to design these devices. The topic of impact attenuator, important at the beginning of safety barrier or next to a fixed obstacle, was also addressed. Finally, the criteria for the design of concrete barriers were presented. At the end of this work, it can be concluded that it is essential for road safety to correctly choose the best containment device to be used, and for that, several aspects must be taken into account following the normative recommendations.
