Resumen
Asphalt pavement design methods have been evolving in recent years. Following this development, it is of great importance that new methods of characterization of the materials that are used for this purpose are also evaluated. In this scenario, the multistage protocol appears as a tool in the evaluation of permanent deformation, since it demands less material consumption and reduced testing time. In this research, this methodology was used in the repeated load triaxial tests for a clayey soil with lateritic behavior used in subgrade. This material was subjected to two different load cycle application conditions, the first being performed for six different pairs of tensions varying the confining and deviation tensions, and the second with the confining tension fixed and varying only the deviation tension. From this, it was found that the accumulated permanent deformations grow as the applied tensions increase and that they have a tendency to settle. Still, the first test condition, performed for six different pairs of tensions, obtained results closer to the conventional methodology, when compared to the second evaluated methodology.
