Abstract

There is a huge variety of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) resources applicable to education that can optimize students learning. For the development of proficiency in English language, for example, there is the free website englishcentral.com which is the object of analysis in this paper. This analysis brings an investigation concerning how such website can foster learner autonomy in students of English. Learning autonomously is seen as an important educational objective, according to researchers such as Holec (1981); Dickinson (1994); Coterall (1995); Finch (2002); Little (2004); Paiva (2011), among others. The results show that the website englishcentral.com has didactic characteristics that may lead its users to the development of autonomy in relation to their studies.
