Resumen
This paper analyzed the relationship between economic growth and political
instability in Haiti during the period 1979 to 2019. The main hypothesis is that political
instability has a negative impact on Haiti's economic growth. To test this hypothesis, a model
with the structure proposed by Solow was used. Methodologically, a regression model was
used that related output and aggregate investment and population. In this structure, the
political instability that acts as a dummy variable is assigned a value of 1 if it exists and a
value of 0 if there is no political instability. Therefore, two models were tested, one without
stability (Model 1) and the other with instability (Model 2). The results showed that an
increase in the investment rate, measured by gross fixed capital formation, by 1% in Model
1 and Model 2, would increase aggregate output growth by 0.39% and 0.38%, respectively.
In turn, increases in population reduce by 0.75% in Model 1 and by 0.67% in Model 2 the
aggregate product. Finally, the inverse relationship found for the variable political instability
suggests that the crises that devastate the country, in addition to causing social problems
and inequalities, negatively impact economic growth.
