Abstract

This work is an approach focused on the management of solid waste in Horizontina(RS), when it comes to awareness and citizen participation in the process. The main objective was to check on the current status of integrated solid waste management, seeking help municipal administration to propose public policies for environmental awareness and education. In this, there was a qualitative research through the use of questionnaires to citizens and students. It was used in a complementary fashion, documentary research, by analyzing reports and documents from the sectors involved in management. How important observations related to the goal, there was an understanding by the students regarding the need for separation of waste and a concern for the environment. Also, what most citizens interviewed know the procedure of selective collection of waste and believed to be fair thyyo pay higher than those currently paid for the disposal of waste takes place properly. , Shows up this way, the concerns of citizens in relation to the environment and the possibility to assist the government in improving.
