Resumen
Benign prostatic hyperplasia is characterized by an enlarged prostate, and is the most common prostatic disease found in non orchiectomized dogs. Usually the disease can be associated with other prostatic changies, such as: prostatic cysts, prostatitits, abcesses and neoplasms. As main clinical signs, patients can present dysuria, urinary incontinence and tenesmus. The main modality of diagnostic imaging indicated in the evaluation of the male reproductive and urinary tract is ultrasound, and, if necessary, radiographic examinations may be performed to complemente the study. The present report aims to describe the ultrasound findings of a prostatic hemorrhagic cyst associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia and cystitis in a dog, mixed breed, five year old, with dysuria, tenesmus and abdominal pain. On ultrassound examination, a severe enlargement of the prostate was observed, with the presence of na extensive anecogenic area with moderate cellularity (cystic area) and a mixed echogenicity amorphous structure in the bladder lumen, compatible with a clot. By associating the clinical findings with those of the image and, subsequently, bthe necropsy, it was possible to conclude the diagnosis of a prostatic hemorrhagic cyst associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia and cystitis. The ultrasound exam proved to be efficient in detecting and differentiating the changes found in the urinay and reproductive system, beign a non invasive exam that provides information about the parenchyma, architecture and size of organs evaluated organs. The ultrasound exam proved to be effective in detecting the alterations found, however, it is not enough to conclude the reported case, requiring na aspiration puncture or a macroscopic assessment and histopathology, which are indispensable exams for an assertive diagnosis.
