Resumen
All those who worked and still work with teaching and learning of Portuguese language in East
Timor have certainly faced a number of particularities and specificities that make their work
practice unique in the universe of teaching practices. My brief experience as a L2 Portuguesespeaking
teacher in this country has motivated me to produce a research that systematically
focused on the characteristics of the Timorese L2 (second language) Portuguese learner's
interlanguage and that could in some way contribute to the development of this theoreticalpractical
area. The environmental and circumstantial conditions led us to the possible cut,
establishing as main objective the investigation of characteristics of usage of verbs in
Portuguese language interlanguage of young Timorese over time, considered three distinct
moments of production. To execute this research, we adopted the theoretical framework based
on Psycholinguistics, more specifically in the field of Second Language Acquisition (ELLIS,
1997), with Interlanguage concept (SELINKER, 1972), and we used Error Analysis (CORDER,
1967; SANTOS GARGALLO, 2004) as a methodological basis. This type of analysis allowed
the disclosure of several characteristic traits of the Interlanguage, which, in large part,
evidenced the agreement between subject, verb, and usage of tenses and verb modes as of great
difficulty for the participants, representing a challenge for the acquisition of the Portuguese
language as L2.
