Resumen
This paper develops the theme of motor development, recognizing its importance and relevance in the development process of children. The purpose is to evaluate the motor performance level of children from the 4th year of elementary school in two different schools, one in which Physical Education classes are taught by a specialized teacher and one where classes are taught by a general teacher. The study group was formed by 36 students, 18 from the school with specialized professional and 18 from the school with general teacher. The motor performance was evaluated using the “Bruininks and Oseretsk test of motor proficiency" - short version. The statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and Student's t test, considering a significance level of 5%. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups of students, and children who had class with a physical education teacher showed better results than the children who had lessons with a general teacher. It was concluded that the presence of a physical education professional in elementary schools is very important for a better motor development of students.
