dc.description.abstract | The structural design of the Itroian Commercial Building presents unique challenges to meet a hierarchy of requirements imposed by architecture, in view of its narrow width and depth ratio, and its sudden reduction in rigidity and relative spans along its height, modifying the method of analysis of 2nd order effects, and making the decision of the slab system to be adopted complex. The structure is the irreducible essence of the architectural form, and that, therefore, it is the role of the Calculating Engineer to propose solutions that preserve the architectural form in a safe and economically viable way. In this case study, a comparison of a building originally designed in reinforced concrete with unidirectional ribbed slabs with ATEX forms was carried out with the solid slab system where it was realized that the originally designed solution was more economically viable than the project developed in this work, in which it was necessary to make occasional changes to the architectural design, and to correct mistakes in the design premise, especially in the continuity of the stairs and in the positioning of the shafts. It was obtained a result of consumption of concrete around 11.26% and steel around 44.77% higher when compared to the structure in a system of ribbed slabs. | |
