Resumen
Public Environmental Education policies are needed in a society that urgently needs to be aware of
change. This study aims to analyze the municipalities of Vale do Jaguari - RS and verify if they are
developing public policies of environmental education through educational actions and practices
aimed at the community. In a qualitative approach, a questionnaire was applied to the public agents of
the environmental sectors of the nine municipalities that make up the region. The questionnaire with
three questions served to identify municipalities with public environmental education policies, their
programs, projects and actions, as well as the perception of public agents about these policies. As a
result, the participation of six of the nine municipalities, where only one has environmental education
instituted by law, has been included in other documents. Three municipalities have an environmental
education program, and isolated action is the way it happens most in these municipalities. Public
agents understand by municipal public policy of environmental education the action or program
developed by the public power through the law, regulations or formal procedures for society as a way
of raising awareness, preserving, preserving and protecting the environment. It is concluded that
transforming environmental education into an instituted public policy is still little accomplished in the
municipalities and that it is a slow, permanent and continuous process, not only depending on the
public power, but also on society. Environmental Education needs to be seen as a necessity of society
through a diagnosis that meets demand effectively.
