This paper aims to analyze the context of families headed by women who are / were benefited from income transfer programs, such as the Family Allowance Program and My house My life Program, included in the National Social Assistance Policy, in the municipality of Santa Maria – Rio Grande do Sul, in order to know this reality. Therefore, the study is an internship report that was formulated through a literature review and reflection of the experiences from the internships in Social Work., held at the Social Welfare Reference Center, located in the municipality of Santa Maria - RS. Such knowledge occurred through home visits, by documents, as field diaries, institutional analysis and intervention project. The feminization of poverty is structured so that, alone, the woman – plagued by numerous inequalities, due to social gender roles and patriarchal system – have to provide for themselves and their children and through this process, making them even more affected by poverty than the male gender. It was also observed that the income transfer programs mentioned above, in the same way that they allow the minimum reproduction of living conditions, mitigate the refractions of the social issue, contributing to maintaining the status quo. In this sense, beyond income transfer, it is necessary to expand some spheres of the public network to really realize social rights, essentially access to work and recognition of the still existing inequalities in society, in relation to female and male.
