Resumen
Cover crops together with poultry litter can be used as alternatives to improve nitrogen (N) input and productivity of crops in succession. Therefore, the present work aimed to evaluate the impact of the use of ground cover plants and the application of poultry litter on some
agronomic characteristics of corn and beans in succession. The experiments were carried out in the experimental area of the Federal University of Santa Maria campus Frederico Westphalen, in the agricultural year 2021/2022, at an altitude of 484 meters. Two soil cover and N managements were studied, a mineral source, an organic source and both. The evaluations
carried out in corn were: plant height, grain yield and dry mass production. In common bean, the evaluations were: plant height, number of grains per plant and grain yield. The N sources provided positive effects on agronomic traits, demonstrating that the use of poultry litter can be an alternative for the total and/or partial replacement of N mineral fertilization in corn and bean
crops. It is concluded that in relation to ground cover plants, an increase in corn productivity was observed when it was cultivated in succession to forage radish.
