Análise da situação das bocas-de-lobo em pontos de alagamento na cidade de Santa Maria, RS

Abstract

Urban drainage is very important for the comfort of the population of a city, being necessary for the drainage of rainwater, preventing inconvenience to citizens. However, many municipalities do not have the structure for adequate planning and management of different aspects of water in the urban environment, allied to this, some events resulting from human action tend to worsen the amount and intensity of floods in cities. Furthermore, there are often no programs for the maintenance of existing drainage systems, which results in a worsening of the problem of flooding in urban areas. In this study, the situation of storm drains was investigated in several spots in the city of Santa Maria, RS, especially those that are installed next to places with flooding. The survey sought to identify the conditions of the storm drains at these spots and whether they may be related to observed flooding. As a criterion for analysis, the storm drains were checked according to their state of conservation, in addition to checking their hydraulic capacity. It was found that the main causes of flooding depend on the region of analysis, being that the central regions presented more sizing issues, meanwhile in remote regions, the biggest problem is the lack of maintenance, which leads to their sewers being clogged.
