dc.description.abstractThe work was carried out to evaluate the effect of nitrogen fertilization in the composition of the forage as grazed and on the tiller dynamics of Alexandergrass (Urochloa plantaginea (Link) Hitch) utilized by beef heifers in rotational grazing method. The experimental design was completely randomized with repeated measurements over time, three doses of nitrogen (N; Zero, 150 and 300 kg / ha) and two area replications. The absence of N reduces the total tiller density. The division of tillers into categories (basal and axillary) shows the greater quantity of basal tillers due to its greater appearance rate in the absence of N fertilization. Also, without N fertilization the forage as grazed shows lower content of crude protein and digestibility in situ of DM and greater content of neutral detergent fiber. The axillary tillers are in greater number with nitrogen fertilization. The use of 300 kg/ha of N promotes renewal of axillary tillers of Alexandergrass without compromising the stability of the plant population.
