Resumen
In this work, a calibration procedure was investigated to determine Mn, Sr, Cd, Ba, Li, Al, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mg, Fe, Fe, and Ca in multivitamins by laser ablation combined mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (LA-ICP-MS). Hydroxyapatite was used for matrix matching and Ca as internal standard (IS). Hydroxyapatite was chosen for calibration as a support material for reference solutions due to the similarity with the composition with the samples. Calcium was used due to its homogeneous distribution in hydroxyapatite. These conditions, associated with other properties of the determined elements, enabled the use of the 43Ca isotope as IS for the determination of several elements by LA-ICP-MS. The main advantages of using the method are related to the use of references solution spiked to the material, minimal handling of the samples and low use of reagents, minimizing the production of chemical residues. In this way, the effects of normalizing the signal of each analyte to 43Ca, the flow of carrier gas, energy and diameter of the laser beam, and Ca homogeneity in hydroxyapatite enables the application of LA-ICP-MS for elements quantification in multivitamins. The procedure allowed the direct multi-element determination in multivitamins. In addition it is possible to evaluate the distribution (homogeneity) of the elements in the multivitamins.
