This monograph presents the execution of the activities related to the Machine Design area for the development of a farm implement that allows the quick change of attachments. The aim of this work was the generation and selection of a conception for a multifunctional mechanical arm for rear end attachment in tractors. The methodology used was based on the Reference Model for the Development Process of Agricultural Machines, referring to the phases of informational project and conceptual project. In the first phase, a market research was realized in order to identify similar existing products and their main characteristics. After that, users' needs were identified, which were transformed into user requirements, then deployed in design requirements, and finally quantified in design specifications. In the conceptual design phase, the global function for the farm implement was defined and the elementary functions were identified for its execution. After that, solution principles were created for each one of the elementary functions. The realization of combinations between the most promising solution principles led to the creation of two alternative conceptions, which were evaluated in terms of meeting both user and project requirements, in order to select the final conception for the implement. The final conception has a square tube welded perpendicularly in half the length of another as a tower concept. A single square tube on which are welded other elements that allows the realization of assemblies as a concept for the arm. A quick change of attachments system with fixings by means of dowels. Two hydraulic cylinders: One used for the movement of the arm and other for the movement of the accessory. This work also contributed to the development and usage of a formal model to product design, Simultaneous Engineering concepts and the creation of a continuous improvement concept to the products manufactured by Plurimetal Indústria Metalúrgica Ltda.
