Resumen
With the development of information technologies and the growing demand documents
produced and received by the public and private institutions, it is imperative that there be
professional archivist to examine, treat, manage and deliver the User information to the
public. In this sense, this research analyzes the labor market for archivists in the halls of the
State of Rio Grande do Sul, as local governments constitute a large labor market, since it is
structured in offices and departments, which produce and receiving large demand for
information, whose treatment is essential to have access, ensure the right of citizens to society
and to promote transparency of public actions. This is a descriptive study, which uses as
technical procedure to the survey, for which it was drawn up a questionnaire for data
collection. The analysis of the results was made through qualitative-quantitative approach.
The study concludes that there is need for further clarification and disclosure regarding the
activities performed by the archivist with the municipalities of this state and the importance of
having a file that preserves the public documents. It follows also that the labor market for
archivists in the halls is ample, despite the difficulties of employment and competitiveness
that exist today. However, the lack of information society in terms of functions and the role of
the archivist of the file, means that there are few archivists working in the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul.
