Resumen
The objective of this study was to examine, in panoramic profile radiographic
images, the correlations between the curvatures of the spine and pelvic positioning.
The images were selected from the database of the Instituto de Radiologia São
Lucas, from March 2009 to August 2011. The angles of the curvatures of the column
were assessed by the Cobb method and the pelvic alignment in centimeters, using
the Osirix software. The sample was characterized by 204 radiographic images of
individuals of both sexes, aged from 18 to 50 years old. Of these, 38 images (18.6%)
were of male individuals and 166 (81.4%) were of female individuals. Based on the
results, it is possible to conclude that the angles of curvature of the column are in
agreement with date from previous literature. From the age of 41 there is an increase
of the cervical curvature that is directly associated with age. The increase in the
cervical and lumbar curvatures is associated with an increased thoracic curvature
and can be attributed to a compensatory response to a posture adjustment. Further
developments of this study will involve the addition of images of male subjects, the
analysis of spine curvatures through the method of Arrow and angle measurements
of the upper and lower cervical spine.
