Resumen
The present study deals with how the journalists’ personal life are affected by work, given that it is a profession that undergoes structural changes. To understand these changes, we use Adghirni (2012) concepts when it comes to productive routines, professional deregulation and changes in the journalists profiles. The aim is to investigate how the structural changes in journalism affect journalist’s personal lives, as well as to verify how the different work links are related to the journalist’s quality of life, to understand how journalists define themselves as professionals and how they define their profession and finally to understand what motivates the journalist to enter and remain in the profession. As a research cut, we chose to investigate these issues in the professional area of Santa Maria, RS. From this, the research is justified by bringing to the surface fragments of the imaginary of the profession and of how the professional perceives itself against the transformations of the journalistic world. Five interviews were conducted with city’s professionals and then were analyzed through content analysis. From the four categories formed - work sense, work organization, personal life and work, and pleasure and suffering at work - it was noticed that even if journalists recognize the difficulties of the profession, their emotional relationship with Journalism makes them remain in it. It was found that the only interviewee who said that he did not have quality of life at work, based on what he considers as quality of life, was the freelance journalist. In the statements of the interviewees also appeared the question of the precariousness of the profession, the low valorization, the intense rhythm of work and the performance of multiple functions.
