This work has as main objective to analyze and apply the Methodology of Problem Solving as an alternative to teaching and learning in mathematics classroom. The object of study was chosen by the need to encourage students to tackle new situations, aiming to bring to the classroom activities that promote the development of strategies and mathematical reasoning through a diverse practice and significant. As theoretical predictions were used in studies of George Polya, in The Art of Problem Solving, guidelines of the National Curriculum, as well as new ideas and perspectives brought the works of mathematics educators such as Prof. Dr. Lourdes de la Rosa Onuchic and Prof. Dr. Luiz Roberto Dante, both from Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Presents a brief description of the institution chosen for the research, the State School of Basic Education Humberto de Campos, describing the proposed mathematical problems in the classroom, which were organized in modules: (1) Fundamental Operations, (2) System Measurement, (3) Percentage and (4) News. The descriptions and reflections of practice, present in the final chapter, we address questions like: Can you learn by solving math problems? What is really knowing how to solve problems?
