Resumen
With the increasing interest in renewable energy in the world, the importance of research in wind energy, associated methods and technologies have grown. The increase
in wind turbines connected to electrical systems also brought new challenges related to
the stability of the system and protection of its components. Differential protection is
used in many components of electrical systems and for wind turbines based on DFIG this
protection was recently proposed. Therefore, this work proposes a new DFIG differential
protection scheme using the current sequence components: positive, negative stator and
negative rotor. In a simulation with DFIG operating with 1.51 MW, tests of internal and
external faults to the protection zone were carried out, of the single-phase and three-phase
type, with different levels of voltage drops. Inter-turn faults in the machine rotor and stator were also tested with various levels of failure. Thus, with the proper definition of the
operation logic, it was possible to show the effectiveness of the protection, with detection
for all faults in the network within the protection zone, considering faults in stator and
rotor windings with 5% failure or more.
