Abstract
The aim of this research is to understand how the cultural identity of three people with diverse abilities has been reconstructed as a result of their new reality, based on their life experiences and the social discourses around the disability, in order to recognize their capacities evidenced in the experiences reported, because when knowing the experience of the subject, it understands the creation and development of their capacities through interaction in their social, family, work and personal world, these factors interact in configuring the cultural identity of the subject
The above is developed through a qualitative study, using the narrative biographical methodology, which it allows to understand the history of the person from their own stories, so, it emphasis on the use of life story techniques, and interview them In depth, allowing to delve into the vital events of the subject considered significant and their consequences, resulting in the establishment of four macro-categories (meanings, coping, transformation and relationships), these macro-categories arise from the speeches of the protagonists, finding out how the person restructures himself in the interaction with his environment and builds his relationships by using his abilities.
Throughout the investigation emerges the concept of diverse abilities, conceived as those skills of each person, such as leadership, development of motor skills, teamwork, resilience, autonomy (economic and self-care), which are developed in the social environment and physical where it operates, these are considered diverse due to the different ways in which each person develops and implements them according to their needs.
The research concludes that disability is a lifestyle in which different qualities and abilities arise to develop in their environment, even although, the discourses provided by the protagonists, this condition is conceived as a deficiency within their social context, situation that hinders the participation of the subject in society, based on equity, equality and respect.
