Resumen
is important to assure the complete cleaning, and successful treatment of the root canal. The Cshaped root canal system is an anatomical variation which is generally found in mandibular second molars with a prevalence of 7.6% in mixed racial population. Objective: To determine the efficacy of C shaped canals preparation in simulated hybrid resin models using Mtwo® rotary
system. Materials and method: The sample was conformed by twelve hybrid resin models which were located in acrylic blocks with an internal and external morphology of a mandibular second molar with anatomy of a C shaped canal Melton’s Category 2. Cone tomography images were obtained before and after the instrumentation. The simulated canals were instrumented by a
single skilled operator, but respecting the technique recommended by the manufacturer. The biomechanical instrumentation was started with K-files ISO 06, 08, 10 and 15, and following with the rotary file ISO 40/4 up to the working length. Results: After applying the descriptive statistics, it was found that coronal wear (11 mm) had a higher value with a mean of 0.3070, with
minimum and maximum values of 0.06 to 1.08. Conclusions: The Mtwo@ rotary system was effective when it was used in C-shaped canals as it did not present excessive thinning of the surfaces, and a similar shaping in all root length.
