Perfil epidemiológico y circunstancias en que ocurren las quemaduras en los niños hospitalizados en el servicio de cirugía infantil del Hospital Clínico Regional Valdivia

Las quemaduras son una realidad latente en nuestra población, que han sido difíciles de eliminar, a pesar de las múltiples campañas, por parte del sector salud, por prevenirlas. Es así como esta investigación, pretende ahondar, en el perfil epidemiológico del niño quemado y las circunstancias que influyeron para que el menor se accidentara, y así obtener información necesaria, que permita en parte, dar propuestas de solución efectivas. La metodología que se utilizó, fue descriptiva con un enfoque cualitativo. La muestra a investigar, correspondió al total de niños ingresados al Servicio de Cirugía Infantil del Hospital Clínico Regional Valdivia, en los períodos Agosto 2001-Julio 2002, con diagnóstico de quemadura; los datos obtenidos fueron ingresados y analizados en programas Excel y Word. Para el logro de los objetivos, se revisaron 55 fichas clínicas, a través del protocolo de revisión de fichas. Además se realizaron 25 visitas domiciliarias, de un total de 29, abarcando solamente, a familias residentes en Valdivia, a las cuales se les aplicó un breve cuestionario. Dentro de los principales resultados, se destaca, que las edades de los niños accidentados, fluctuaban entre 0 y 2 años (62%). En relación con el sexo predominó el masculino con un 58%, mientras que el femenino alcanzó un 42%. Las personas a cargo del menor, fueron principalmente las madres (72%), las cuales el 40%, no había terminado su Enseñanza Básica, y contaban con edades, en su gran mayoría, entre 21 y 24 años. En cuanto al accidente, el 60%, tuvo como agente causal, líquidos en ebullición y un 56% ocurrió en la cocina. Las circunstancias que lo favorecieron, fue la falta de conducta preventiva que afectó al 44% de la población. A pesar de esto, el 68%, manifestó no haber tomado medidas de prevención. Los niños afectados fueron principalmente FONASA A (68%), por lo que se deduce que estos menores, provenían de familias de un nivel socioeconómico bajo. The burns are a latent reality in our population, that have been difficult to eliminate, in spite of the multiple campaigns, on the part of the sector health, to prevent them. For the profit of the objectives, 55 clinical cards were reviewed, through the protocol of card revision. In addition, 25 domiciliary visits were made, of a total of 29, only including to resident families in Valdivia, to which a brief questionnaire was applied to them. Within the main results, one stands out, that the greater number of children victims, their ages fluctuated between 0 and 2 years (62%). In relation to sex the masculine one with a 58% predominated, whereas the feminine one reached a 42%.
