Abstract
Climate change as the main factor has significantly reduced glaciers worldwide, Colombia has not been oblivious to this problem, which is why this article seeks to study the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, listed as the snow that provides more glacier coverage in Colombia. Remote sensing is a technique that allows obtaining and observing geographic, digital information of objects at a distance, an indispensable application in this field are satellite images, so that they allow the identification of the types of coverage on the earth's surface. The present study shows a multitemporal analysis of the glacial retreat of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, the objective of the work is to estimate the loss of glacier coverage through the processing of Landsat satellite images in the period from 1988 to 2016, information from the TM sensors, ETM + and OLI, to which a geometric, radiometric and atmospheric correction process was performed, in order to obtain improvements in the quality of the images. Likewise, different compositions of RGB spectral bands were used in order to identify the glacier area, types of vegetation, bodies of water, rivers and others, making statistics on their behavior through regressions that allow estimating the health of the conflict, causes and consequences of climate change that degrade the ecosystem.
