Hemimelia radial unilateral en un felino doméstico

Abstract

Los gatos domésticos pueden presentar varios tipos de anomalías congénitas en el sistema musculo esquelético, pero aún se posee muy poca información disponible en Colombia al respecto. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este artículo es reportar el caso de un felino domestico hembra, en la cual se evidenció una malformación congénita; dados los signos clínicos y el diagnóstico definitivo. Mediante el examen radiológico, se determinó la ausencia del radio en el miembro torácico izquierdo (hemimelia radial unilateral). Estas malformaciones (disostosis) del esqueleto apendicular se pueden presentar de forma unilateral o bilateralmente, lo que determinará la supervivencia del neonato. Esta anomalía congénita es más común en gatos que en perros, y algunas razas tienen mayor predisposición a presentar esta patología.

Domestic cats can present several types of congenital anomalies in the musculoskeletal system, but there is still very little information available in Colombia. Therefore, the objective of this article is to report the case of a female domestic feline, in which a congenital malformation was evidenced; given the clinical signs and the definitive diagnosis. Radiological examination revealed the absence of the radius in the left thoracic limb (unilateral radial hemimelia). These malformations (dysostosis) of the appendicular skeleton can occur unilaterally or bilaterally, which will determine the survival of the neonate. This congenital anomaly is more common in cats than in dogs, and some breeds are more predisposed to present this pathology.
