Rafael Uribe Uribe was born in Valparaíso (Antioquia) in 1859 and was assassinated in Bogotá on October 15, 1914. He studied Law at the Universidad del Rosario. He was a journalist, military man, diplomat and congressman. Although he is known in history as one of the greatest ideologues of the liberal party and prolific author of innumerable studies on economic, political, social and cultural issues. Some of them are about coffee, cotton, Panama, Liberalism, Peace, Piety, etc. After being a radical liberal, promoter of several of the wars of the late nineteenth century, including the Thousand Days, he went on to become a determined defender of peace and reconciliation in the country. Son of Tomás Uribe Toro and María Luisa Uribe de Uribe, Rafael Uribe married Sixta Tulia Gaviria Sañudo from Antioquia and with her he had six children: María Luisa, Adelaida, Julián, Carlos Eduardo, Tulia and Inés.
