Purpose: The purpose of this article was to evaluate the characteristics of patients in the population Colombian with a diagnosis of discoid meniscus who are cared for and treated at the Roosevelt Institute. Methods: a retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study of the data of patients with diagnosis of discoid meniscus (ICD - 10 M231) who received care and surgical treatment in the Roosevelt Institute between 2007 and 2018. Emphasis was placed on the characteristics of the discoid menisci according to the Good & Green classification; and complications presented in at least one year of tracing. Results: 90 patients underwent surgery with a diagnosis of discoid meniscus, with an average age of 10.7 years and the affected meniscus was 100% external. According to the classification of Good & Green, 66.7% were complete, 72.2% were unstable and 83.3% presented rupture. during at least one year of follow-up in all, it was found that 4.4% required a new surgical intervention due to non-traumatic re-tear, 3.3% with meniscal suture failure and 2% with arthrofibrosis as main complications. Conclusions: The external meniscus is the main affected meniscus in the Colombian population, which agrees with universal literature, however, in Colombia most are complete and unstable meanwhile in universal literature, are complete and stable.
