Resumen
The purpose of this article is to examine the effects of hydraulic fracturing on ecosystems. The question then shifts to whether or not to continue using this type of unconventional hydrocarbon production in Colombia. Simultaneously, the biotic environment determines the influence on biodiversity and ecosystems in the country and, more specifically, in those basins where pilot studies of integrated research for hydraulic fracturing are planned. It also examines whether action is being taken per the Convention on Biological Diversity, which Colombia approved in Law 165 of 1994, with the National Biodiversity Policy, which was approved by the National Environmental Council in 1995 and is based on the principle of biodiversity as a national heritage, and with the other international commitments that the country has made for biodiversity conservation. Finally, it aims to answer the issue of whether Colombia is to blame for allowing hydraulic fracturing in a nation regarded as the world's second most biodiverse.
