Different kind of transient sensory deprivation had shown to modulate some human cerebral function and can be used to improve the rehabilitation of these functions. Interestingly, both the ischemic nerve block (INB) and transient visual deprivation (TVD) elicit short term plasticity through related mechanism; however, their combinatory effect has not been studied before. Objective: To test in a preliminary way if the combination of these deprivations, may to enhance their individuals effects in sensory human system. Methods: Previous informed consent and regarding Helsmsisky’s declaration, 9 normal subjects were studied before and after, 90 minutes of TVD, 30 minutes of INB and the combination of both interventions. Both somatosensory evoked potentials for electrical stimulation and tactile discrimination acuity were greater two hours after the INB-TVD combination. On the other hand, the individual interventions (INB and TVD, separately) did not show any significant effect. Conclusion: The present preliminary study, points toward the transient TVD in combination with INB, may to potentiate their individual plastic effects, on the human sensory system even more than the explained by such interventions.
