Costo efectividad de Liraglutide frente a Orlistat en el tratamiento de obesidad

Abstract

Introduction: obesity is a public health problem worldwide, with different pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapeutic strategies. In the present study, two drugs, Liraglutide and Orlistat, were compared based on cost and effectiveness in reducing at least 5% of body weight. Objective: to analyze the effectiveness of Liraglutide versus Orlistat, in terms of costs and efficacy and safety outcomes. Materials and methods: it was designed taking the percentage of weight loss with each therapy as the unit of effectiveness; the likelihood of this outcome of interest appearing was taken from XENSOR, a retrospective observational cohort study that compared the two therapies in obese adults. The costs assessed included the direct costs of the diagnosis and the use of therapies according to the Health Tariff Manual 2020, as well as the treatment of safety outcomes. The perspective of the study is the Colombian Social Security System and the time horizon was 3 months. Results: the sociodemographic characteristics and the probability of weight reduction documented in the patients in XENSOR were presented, being 56.5% for Liraglutide and 30.7% for Orlistat. They were analyzed using a decision tree and a deterministic univariate sensitivity analysis. Conclusions: Liraglutide is an effective therapeutic option with an extra cost to pay of $ 5,122,740 for each additional unit of effectiveness compared to Orlistat.
