The current work presents the design of the superstructure for a Guadua angustifolia modular pedestrian bridges with spans of 15, 20, 25 y 30 meters. The spans are made of modules of with 5.0m length, 2.0 clearance width and 2.30 m clearance high. The proposed geometry takes into account the assembling and construction stages, an innovative architecture and a reliable system that guarantees the right performance for the serviceability and ultimate limit states.
Based on the proposed designs, it was noted that due to the increment of the span length, it was necessary to have frame elements with larger diameters and in some cases to introduce new ones. Likewise, the design of the connections of all the elements is presented.
For the design of the bridges, the Colombian codes were used and for the design of the elements, the allowable stress method, from chapter G.12 of the Reglamento Colombiano de Construcción Sismo Resistente NSR-10, was adopted. Likewise, in order to obtain the stresses and strains in the structures the software SAP 2000® was used. Afterwards, a proposal of a construction booklet is presented with the aim of showing a practical methodology for the rural communities. This will allow locals to build the bridges on their own and based on their particular needs. Nonetheless, it is important to clarify that the execution of the works must be done with the supervision of qualified personal.
The scope of this project doesn’t include the design of the bridges infrastructure, nevertheless, the loads that are transferred from the superstructure are shown for its design.
