dc.description.abstract | The present study evaluates the impact of exploration and exploitation capacities on radical and incremental innovation, respectively. Recent studies have indicated the importance of examining said relationship in further depth, through the incorporation of moderating elements, such as culture. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the moderating effect of adaptability and alignment, cultural factors, on the relationship between exploration and exploitation and innovation capacities. On one hand, the moderating effect of adaptability, on the relationship between exploration and radical innovation, was evaluated. On the other, the moderating effect of alignment on the relationship between exploitation and incremental innovation was examined. These relationships were analyzed in a sample of large Colombian companies, from both the industrial and service sectors, by way of structural equation modeling, in Smartpls3. The results indicate a positive relationship between exploration and radical innovation, as well as between exploitation and incremental innovation. Regarding the moderation of cultural factors, it was found that alignment moderated the relationship between exploitation and incremental innovation, but adaptability did not moderate the relationship between exploration and radical innovation. On a practical level, this study may guide companies in their management of cultural factors, in an effort to enhance innovation.
