Background: Postpartum tubal ligation is an effective and safe contraception strategy, whose purpose is to reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancy and prevent unfavorable outcomes on the mother, the newborn and society. Objective: To make a description of the anesthetic characteristics and the acceptability of the patients with respect to the subarachnoid administration of reduced doses of local anesthetics and opioid adjuvant for the realization of postpartum tubal ligation. Design: It is a descriptive study using an academic database that documents the characteristics of the anesthetic block, the hemodynamic impact, the development of adverse events and the satisfaction of the patients in the Maternal and Child Institute (Bogotá, Colombia) taken to postpartum tubal ligation under subarachnoid regional anesthesia. Results: The demographic characteristics described are similar to those described in the literature corresponding to the anesthetic technique in question. The sensory block obtained under the described administration scheme demonstrates a frequency of success within the range reported in the literature, however, lower sensory levels and shorter recovery periods are manifested. Conclusions: The use of low dose local anesthetic and opioid coadjuvant therapy for subarachnoid anesthesia, in the context of postpartum tubal ligation, provides a safe and effective alternative that could assist in the processes of improving obstetric care.
