dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research was to identify the relevant quality management practices for strengthening the productivity of the Colombian agro-industrial sector, taking dairy industry as a case study. The methodology used was the multiple case study and involved, four companies as an analysis sample, 32 quality management practices and 7 productivity indicators as study variables, and, in-depth interviews, questionnaires and checklists as data collection resources. The development of the doctoral thesis was carried out in four stages called: literature review, design of data collection instruments, selection and characterization of cases, and, results and analysis. The research findings revealed that, "feedback and auditing", "innovation" and all quality management practices of the constructs "human resource management", "process management", "process control" and "top management support” were considered relevant for the seven productivity indicators studied. The findings of this doctoral thesis have several implications: for research, with its contribution to the consolidation of quality management theory, through the study of its relationship with poorly analysed variables such as productivity and, in contexts sparsely tackled as is the Colombian dairy industry; for practice, by providing a proposal for strengthening the productivity indicators of the Colombian dairy industry and agro-industry, through quality management practices identified as relevant for each one; and for society, for contributing to the generation of proposals that strengthen the productivity of Colombian agro-industry, which, in turn, will lead to employment generation and economic growth in the country. | |
dc.description.abstract | El propósito de esta tesis doctoral fue identificar las prácticas de gestión de calidad relevantes para el fortalecimiento de la productividad del sector agroindustrial colombiano, tomando como estudio de caso a la industria láctea. La metodología utilizada fue el estudio de caso múltiple, e involucró, cuatro empresas como muestra de análisis, 32 prácticas de gestión de calidad y 7 indicadores de productividad como variables de estudio, y, entrevistas en profundidad, cuestionarios y listas de chequeo como recursos de recolección de datos. El desarrollo de la tesis doctoral se llevó a cabo en cuatro etapas denominadas: revisión de literatura, diseño de instrumentos de recolección de datos, selección y caracterización de casos, y, resultados y análisis. Los hallazgos de la investigación revelaron que las prácticas de gestión de calidad “retroalimentación y auditoria”, “innovación” y, todas las de los constructos “gestión del recurso humano”, “gestión de procesos”, “control de procesos” y “soporte de la alta gerencia” fueron consideradas como relevantes para los siete indicadores de productividad estudiados. Los hallazgos de esta tesis doctoral tienen varias implicaciones: para la investigación, con su aporte a la consolidación de la teoría de la gestión de calidad, a través del estudio de su relación con variables poco analizadas como lo es la productividad y, en contextos escasamente abordados como lo es la industria láctea colombiana; para la práctica, al brindar una propuesta para el fortalecimiento de los indicadores de productividad de la industria láctea y agroindustria colombiana, a través de la identificación de las prácticas de gestión de calidad relevantes para cada uno; y para la sociedad, por aportar a la generación de propuestas que fortalezcan la productividad de la agroindustria colombiana, lo que a su vez, propiciará la generación de empleo y el crecimiento económico del país.
