dc.description.abstractMentoring is the most valuable component of startup acceleration programs, according to the research. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the added value perceived by the participants of an acceleration program, about the mentoring they received during that program. Different functions that the mentors performed during a mentoring relationship were explored. Additionally, the added values of the mentoring relationships were established, according to the previous literature. This allowed us to solve the following research question: What is the added value that entrepreneurs in Valle del Cauca perceive about mentoring for early stage companies? The study was conducted using data collected with 46 entrepreneurs who participated in at least 75% of the mentoring in Valle E program in seventh cohort. This program was carried out between June and August of 2019. Hierarchical regression models were used to determine the relationship between the added value perceived by the entrepreneurs based on the different functions exercised by the mentors. The results confirm that entrepreneurs really perceived aggregate values both at the individual level and at the business level. The psychological functions performed by the mentors showed the greatest relevance. The behavior of the sex variable motivated important future discussions about the gender approach in acceleration programs. This study is the first in Latin America to study the added value of mentoring, as the main component of acceleration programs.
dc.description.abstractLa literatura sugiere que el mentoring es el componente más valioso de los programas de aceleración de startups. El propósito de este trabajo es analizar el valor agregado percibido por los participantes de un programa de aceleración, acerca del mentoring que recibieron durante dicho programa. Para lograrlo se exploraron las diferentes funciones que ejercen los mentores durante una relación de mentoría. Adicionalmente se establecieron los valores agregados de las relaciones de mentoring a la luz de la literatura previa. Lo anterior permitió resolver la siguiente pregunta de investigación: ¿Cuál es el valor agregado que perciben los empresarios del Valle del Cauca acerca del mentoring para empresas en etapa temprana? El estudio se realizó utilizando datos recolectados con 46 empresarios que participaron en al menos el 75% de las mentorías del programa Valle E en su séptima cohorte. Dicho programa se realizó entre junio y agosto del 2019. Se utilizaron modelos de regresión jerárquica para determinar la relación existente entre el valor agregado percibido por los empresarios en función de las diferentes funciones ejercidas por los mentores. Los resultados confirman que los empresarios efectivamente percibieron valores agregados tanto a nivel individual como a nivel empresarial. Las funciones psicológicas ejercidas por los mentores fueron las que mostraron mayor relevancia. El comportamiento de la variable sexo permitió establecer importantes discusiones futuras sobre el enfoque de género en los programas de aceleración. Este estudio es el primero en Latinoamérica en estudiar el valor agregado del mentoring como principal componente de los programas de aceleración.
