Introduction: The number of deaths caused by traffic accidents worldwide is estimated at 1.25 million, that is, on average about 3000 daily deaths, this has become a great challenge for Public Health due to its high incidence and serious consequences for the population. In this sense, between 20% and 40% of fatal work accidents in industrialized countries correspond to road events. Objective: To determine the prevalence of unsafe behavior at the wheel and its relation to accident rate in a group of private service drivers during the year 2017 - 2018. Materials and methods: a cross-sectional study was developed in 118 escort drivers of a private company with service in Bogotá. The study included sociodemographic, labor variables and those related to unsafe driving behavior using the "Driver Behavior Questionnaire" instrument in its short version adapted to Spanish (SDBQ), which were applied individually in the company facilities. Results: A prevalence of 23.7% was determined for accidents / incidents and 33.1% for those in the studied population. The aggressive manifestations were behavior with greater reactivity with 49.2%. By means of a discriminant analysis it was determined that the variables of accidents, ticket traffic, errors and violations of the Law allow to differentiate with statistical significance (p <0,005) group of offenders and non-offenders of the study and classify 93.2% of the original cases. Conclusions: The results of the study provide evidence of the utility of the SDBQ to predict the probability that a certain driver is classified as a "possible offender". With the identification of the risk profile of the drivers, different strategies can be implemented in the framework of road safety, considering that the human factor plays an important role in traffic accidents.
