Resumen
Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis (NMDAR), is a severe, treatable and potentially reversible disorder characterized by the presence of behavior alterations, seizures and movement disorders. The presence of antibodies against the glutamate receptor (anti-NMDA) in plasma or cerebrospinal fluid is specific for the diagnosis of the disease. The early recognition of the disease is vital for the prognosis of the patient, given that early management facilitates the recovery and reduction of morbidity and mortality. The first line therapy includes the use of corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin or plasmapheresis, and other immuno-modulators such as (cyclophosphamide or rituximab) as a second line. The recovery is slow, presenting an improvement in the degree to which the antibody titers decrease reaching a complete recovery in up to 75% of the patients.
